Dear CHSD 218 Community:
On Friday afternoon, Governor Pritzker issued a “stay at home” order for all residents in Illinois, beginning Saturday, March 20, through Tuesday, April 7.
This means that all CHSD 218 school buildings will remain closed to students through at least Tuesday, April 7. This is subject to change as the situation continues to develop.
We will continue to implement our e-learning plan on weekdays beginning on Monday, March 30 through Tuesday, April 7. The governor did not indicate whether these would be considered “Act of God” days and we are expecting further guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education in the next few days. It is clear that these days will not have to be made up at the end of the school year.
The state superintendent, Dr. Carmen Ayala also emailed yesterday that “ISBE contemplates that districts will eventually transition to Remote Instructional Days.” An advisory group in Springfield “will explore what is possible and what is reasonable under these unprecedented circumstances.” She anticipates some direction coming from Springfield this week. So, we will continue to seek answers to the many questions so many have right now. We simply must be patient as details are worked out in the coming days.
In CHSD 218, spring break will continue as scheduled through Friday, March 27. There will be no e-learning for students during this time off.
I understand that this extended closure will create hardship for many families and staff members in the CHSD 218 family. Let us work together during this unique time. The 218 staff at each of our high schools will do everything we can to ensure that our students continue to learn and continue to stay engaged during this crisis. Thank you so much for your patience, your understanding, and your cooperation.
